AUGUSTA — A Model Railroad Celebration will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Maine State Museum, 230 State St.

The celebration will feature the Maine 3-Railers Club, an O-gauge model railroad club with more than 60 members from around the state. The club’s winter scene layout will include a special model sawmill in operation.

Trains figure prominently in the museum’s collections. Most notably, the 1846 Lion, one of America’s earliest surviving steam locomotives, continues to be a popular attraction as it greets visitors at the museum’s entrance.

The museum is open free of charge both days.
