AUGUSTA — There will be nighttime lane closures on Interstate 95 early next week near Western Avenue as part of ongoing bridge repair work at exit 109, officials said.

The state Department of Transportation plans a southbound lane closure from 8 p.m. Monday until 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to a news release Friday from the agency.

And a northbound lane closure is planned to take place from 8 p.m. Tuesday until 5 a.m. Wednesday.

If weather or other factors prevent the work from taking place either of those overnights, a closure will take place from 8 p.m. Wednesday until 5 a.m. Thursday, according to the release.

Traffic detours on and off interstate will be clearly marked with signs, the release said.

The work involves removing steel girders from both the north and southbound sides of the Interstate, part of repairs to a bridge at exit 109A.
