“Scooge! The Musical” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15 and Saturday, Dec. 16, and at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16 and Sunday, Dec. 17, at The Chocolate Church Arts Center, 804 Washington St. in Bath.
The Musical, based on the 1843 novella Charles Dickens, is the timeless story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a greedy miser who hates Christmas, but who is transformed into a caring, kindly person through the visitations of four ghosts.
This production features local actors of all ages singing and dancing.
Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” has been dramatized and adapted countless times for virtually every medium and performance genre, and new versions appear regularly. This year the Chocolate Church highlights the version by renowned writer-composer-lyricist Leslie Bricusse who adapted 1970 hit screen musical “Scrooge!”
Like the film, the musical follows Ebenezer Scrooge (portrayed by Iver McLeod) as he undergoes a profound experience of redemption over the course of a Christmas Eve night, after being visited by the ghost of his former partner Jacob Marley (portrayed by Reese Madarasz) and the ghosts of Christmas Past (portrayed by Sarah Hanson), Christmas Present (portrayed by Mary Melquist) and Christmas Future (portrayed by Phoebe Hanson).
Tickets cost $12 in advance or $15 at the door. There is an opening night reception with light refreshments and the opportunity to meet and greet cast members on Friday, Dec. 15 immediately following the show for an additional $6 fee.
