Nicholas Tapscott York County Sheriff’s Office

A Shapleigh man was arrested for domestic violence assault Wednesday night after he allegedly strangled his girlfriend and threatened to drive around killing people, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

A woman reported to police that her boyfriend, 28-year-old Nicholas Tapscott, strangled her and threw her against the wall, forcing her to flee the house they share on Back Road, Sheriff Bill King said.

“The victim was concerned because (Tapscott) had taken several firearms from the house and made comments about driving around to ‘kill people’ and also made some threatening, nonspecific comments about the police,” King said in a news release.

Deputies found Tapscott’s vehicle at the Back Road house around 9 p.m. After several unsuccessful attempts to reach Tapscott by phone, deputies used a cruiser public address system to order him out of the house.

Tapscott was arrested without incident and taken to York County Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment Friday. No bail is allowed for domestic violence assault charges, King said.

Deputies seized two firearms from Tapscott’s house and released them to his family members for safekeeping.
