to have insurance
While I congratulate the LePages on their successful weight loss surgery (“‘Little skinny guy from Maine’ named LePage details impact of weight loss surgery,” Dec. 28) I was struck by two factors.
The LePages are most fortunate to have health insurance that allows them the luxury to afford this medical intervention. Certainly the lack of insurance would be a barrier for anyone in need of this procedure.
The second factor is that food addiction is a disease. Like other addictive activities, it is the compulsive repetition of an activity despite life-damaging consequences. Like other addictions, it responds well to treatment.
Keeping this in mind, perhaps this administration will now be open to expanding treatment options for the people in our state who are dealing with the terrible effects of the many forms of addictive behaviors.
