The 25th annual Polar Bear Dip, hosted by the Maine Pond Hockey Classic, will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Snow Pond Center for the Arts in Sidney.

The three-day Maine Pond Hockey Classic will feature 60 teams in six divisions. The games start at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9. The classic continues from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, with the finals from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11.

An on-ice Players’ Lounge will feature food and beverages, ice candles and fire pits, blanketed benches and music. Before and after the dip people can attend the tournament games, skate at the community free-skate rink, and visit the pop-up Skate Shop in the Snow Pond Lodge.

Children can help build a team or dip solo, and plan a costume, the zanier the better, to increase their odds at winning a prize.

The individual who raised the most money will win a grand prize. Prized also will be awarded for the biggest team, best costume(s), most amusing dip(s), which will be judged by the adjacent Player’s Lounge spectators.

Free hot chocolate, coffee, treats and prizes will be available for everyone who dips.

Proceeds will directly benefits the Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCA of Greater Waterville’s Kid’s Kitchen, which serves more than 50,000 free, hot, nutritious meals and snacks annually to an average of 200 plus at risk children daily. In addition, at the end of each week, a weekend’s worth of food is sent to 120 families in need through the Weekend Meals Backpack program.
