A 30-year-old man was charged with arson Wednesday after police say he set the mobile home he was renting on fire, killing his two dogs and injuring himself.

Bradley Wallace, of Great Island, which is part of Harpswell, faces one count of felony arson in connection with the fire at 92 Sunset Cove that started about 6 a.m., the state Fire Marshal’s Office said.

Investigators believe Wallace set paper on fire in his bedroom.

Three people spending the night at the home escaped without injury after Wallace alerted them to the flames and after they smelled smoke.

Stephen McCausland, a spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said investigators could not identify Wallace’s motive for the alleged arson.

The mobile home was destroyed.
