The Ghost of Paul Revere, a self-described “holler folk” band from Portland, will make its national TV debut next week.

The three-member group will perform on the TBS network talk show “Conan,” hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien, at 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The band members found out about the TV gig this week and posted the news Friday on Facebook.

“When I found out, I just faded out for a moment, then kind of stared off at nothing, then I had like 500 thoughts in the space of a second,” said Sean McCarthy, 30, the band’s bass player. “When we all met up the next day we just looked at each other and shrugged, then high-fived each other.”

The band’s three members – McCarthy, Griffin Sherry on guitar and Max Davis on banjo – grew up in Buxton and Hollis and have been friends since they were in preschool.

They’ve been in the band together since 2011 and began a push toward the big time in the last year or so with a new album, “Monarch,” and promotion help from a national publicity agency, Shore Fire Media, which helped get the “Conan” gig.

The band has played major festivals around the country but has never done a national TV show before. McCarthy said it is something he and the others have thought about over the years but not in any “realistic” way.

“We just thought about it as ‘man, that would be awesome, that would blow our minds,’ ” McCarthy said. “And now it’s happening.”

Other guests scheduled to be on the “Conan” show Wednesday night are radio personality and record producer DJ Khaled and comedian Natasha Leggero. On the show’s website, it says: “The Ghost of Paul Revere is here. We mean the band, not the actual ghost. That we know of …”

The band members think they’ll probably do one song near the end of the hourlong show. After taping the show Wednesday afternoon in Los Angeles, the band will play a show at the nearby Hotel Café with Maine musician Zach Jones, who now lives in California.
