BELFAST — Sylvie Bastien-Doss, from Montreal, Quebec, an educator and international speaker for Delta Kappa Gamma International Society of Women Educators, will be the keynote speaker at the “S-T-R-E-T-C-H Your Teaching” workshop, hosted by Alpha Psi State, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Hutchison Center, 80 Belmont Ave.

Bastien-Doss shares her experiences and expertise she has developed in the fields of education, communications, public relations, fundraising and school management. She has been involved in all facets of school management and teaching at the Quebec Association of Independent Schools.

Her trainings are tailor-made for collaboration between parents and schools, so everyone can develop a common language and adopts winning attitudes necessary for good communication and a successful learning environment for all students. Bastien-Doss is an accredited trainer with Personality Insights (DISC Personality Styles Model) and Neurolinguistic Programming training.

She will talk about interpersonal communications at all levels — among peers, home/school, teacher/principal etc. in the school and other environments. She also will lead a session that digs deeper into how to effect interpersonal communication at all levels.

The day-long workshop will feature professional development sessions presented by Maine educators on teaching strategies and implementation of effective lessons. Classroom-related topics include stress reduction, integrating compassion into content teaching, autism, human rights, hands-on science and math activities and more.

The statewide workshop features sessions on all areas of curricula — including math, science, social studies, ELA and others. The event is sponsored by Maine State Organization of DKG International Society of Women Educators. Both the International and state organizations support professional development of all educators to help improve classroom instructional practices and strategies that directly impact students.

The registration fee is $30 if received by Feb. 15, or $40 after Feb. 15 and must be received by March 10 to be guaranteed lunch. Preservice teachers are encouraged to attend at a cost of $10. The registration fee for DKG members is $20.
