A threat of violence made against St. Brigid School was deemed without merit after an investigation by Portland police and federal authorities.

The Catholic school on Stevens Avenue was closed Tuesday because of the threat, but will reopen Wednesday, according to Principal William Burke. He said a “thorough investigation” of the threat by the Portland Police Department and federal law enforcement agencies concluded the threat was without merit, though they continue to investigate.

“I agree with the assessment of the Portland Police Department that there is no imminent threat,” he said.

Burke said he could not provide details about the threat or how it was received because of the ongoing investigation.

St. Brigid is a privately run Catholic school for 3-year-olds through eighth-graders.
