As I sit here thinking of the 14 high school students shot dead, three teachers shot dead, 14 others wounded, and thousands of others suffering, there has not been a single word from my congressman, Bruce Poliquin.

Is that because Rep. Poliquin has received more than $200,000 from the NRA as of October 2017? Rep. Poliquin fully supports the sale of guns to people on the terrorist watch list, and AR-15s so people like Stephen Paddock setup shooting galleries with bump stocks. He is against enhanced background checks, and supports loopholes in background checks, guns at our schools, and President Donald Trump’s signing of a resolution made it easier for people with mental illness to obtain guns, just to list a few. Rep. Poliquin has a record any parent would be ashamed of.

The vast majority of intelligent Americans want stronger gun laws, but not the NRA or Poliquin because somehow that would supposedly infringe on our Second Amendment rights.

Here is a suggestion. To pay for all the costs associated with gun violence, let’s have a fee on all gun sales. We still get to buy guns but pay our fair share of the cost to protect the public and our children in public schools.

I’m 64 and grew up with “duck and cover.” Now all schools practice “active shooter drills,” and we actually are building schools so they reduce the potential carnage by shooters. Think about that for a few minutes.
