Maine State Police troopers played a significant role in preventing two drivers who were traveling in the wrong direction on Interstate 295 late last week from colliding with other motor vehicles.
In a post on the Maine State Police Facebook page Tuesday, Trooper Andre Paradis was credited with using his cruiser Friday morning to block an elderly driver from entering the interstate in the wrong direction near Exit 2 in South Portland. The driver was cut off just as he tried to enter I-295, which was filled with several vehicles traveling at highway speed.
On Saturday night, Trooper Patrick Flanagan arrested the driver of a car traveling southbound in the northbound lane of I-295 in Portland after the vehicle had struck several cars on downtown streets. The driver was arrested and charged with operating under the influence, driving to endanger, and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash.
“Both of these events could have ended tragically and we are thankful we were in position to end these events without incident” the Facebook post said.
