Owen Kennedy, 12, of Winthrop, has been selected to be a performer at the 2018 Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Conference scheduled for May 1-4 in San Diego, California, according to a news release from the Alfond Youth Center.

Kennedy, who is homeschooled, is a youth performer at the Alfond Youth Center in Waterville. He plays violin and bohdrum and has performed in festivals throughout Maine.

According to the release, Kennedy was one of only nine entries selected from more than 130 audition videos. Each audition video went through multiple rounds of judging, with each entry being reviewed for professionalism, presence and exhibition of mastery and skill.

While at the conference, Kennedy will have the opportunity to participate in a series of virtual coaching sessions with expert vocal, movement and performance coaches in preparation for performances at the conference. He also will perform for hundreds of dedicated club professionals, board members and national partners.

Kennedy is the son of Christine and Christopher Kennedy.
