BOSTON — Westbrook’s Nyagoa Bayak and Thornton Academy’s Jason Montano both won championships at the New England Interscholastic Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

Bayak, a junior, cleared 5 feet, 10 inches to win the high jump. That is two inches higher than her state record jump at the Class A state championship meet on Feb. 19.

Zoe Dainton of Hingham High School (Massachusetts) finished second with a jump of 5-7.

Bayak also won the New England title as a freshman with a jump of 5-7. She was fifth last year (5-3).

Waterville’s Sarah Cox finished 19th in the girls shot put, with a throw of 35-06.25. The champion of the event was Cameron Garabian of Seekonk (Massachusetts), with a throw of 43-07.75.

Other notable central Maine finishers were Charlotte Wentworth of Messalonskee, who finished 18th in the girls 600 meters (1:41.37). Maxamus Spaulding of Winslow finished 19th in the boys 600 (1:25.45) and 21st in the 55 meter hurdles (8.31).

Montano, a junior won the Class A title with a throw of 57-1.25. He was fourth at New Englands last year with a throw of 50-9.

Brewer’s Garrett Graham, who won the Class B title this winter, finished sixth with a throw of 52-0.75.

Scarborough sophomore Jarett Flaker finished third in the 300 meters, finishing in 34.92. Flaker won the 55, 200 and 400 at the Class A state championship meet earlier this year. He set state records in the 55 and the 200.

Also Saturday, Flaker finished seventh in the 55 with a time of 6.57 in the finals.

Also for Scarborough, Emily Labbe was sixth in the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.58 and Molly Murnane was sixth in the 55 with a time of 7.39.

Orono’s Camille Kohtala was fourth in the girls long jump with a leap of 17-5.5.

Windham’s Alex Wilkins was fourth in the boys long jump with a leap of 22-3.
