Maine State Police on Saturday identified Jenna French, 30, of Higgins Road, Pittsfield, as the woman whose body was found Friday afternoon in the trunk of a locked car.

“At this point in the investigation, there is no indication of foul play, said Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The car had been towed from the parking lot of the Palmyra Walmart.

French’s body was found when the trunk was opened at the Varney Chevrolet dealership on Somerset Avenue in Pittsfield. The Chevrolet Malibu was towed there to be unlocked.

McCausland said the autopsy was begun Saturday morning and that additional tests will be done to determine the cause of death.

McCausland said the car belongs to French’s grandmother, whose name he did not know, and that French was listed as the primary driver.

“She has been missing since Tuesday,” McCausland said. “Her grandmother reported her missing Thursday to Pittsfield police.”

The vehicle was taken to the Maine State Police Laboratory in Augusta, and the body taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, also in Augusta.

On Friday the Major Crimes Unit, along with town police, was at work at the scene in Pittsfield.

McCausland would not say who found the body, though the car was near the service part of the dealership’s building.

In a news release sent Saturday afternoon, McCausland said, “Her car was located by relatives in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart in Palmyra on Friday morning and the car was towed to Varney Chevrolet in Pittsfield because relatives had no keys to the vehicle.”

A relative of French’s, contacted through Facebook, said Saturday that she had no comment for a reporter.
