Phil Mickelson ended the longest drought of his career with a playoff victory over Justin Thomas in the Mexico Championship, capping a wild day that included Thomas holing out for eagle on the final hole of regulation.

Mickelson, who closed with a 5-under 66, two-putted from 18 feet for par on the signature par-3 17th hole at Chapultepec Golf Club. Thomas went long, chipped to just inside 10 feet and missed his par putt.

Mickelson’s last victory was the 2013 British Open, a stretch of 101 starts worldwide without a win.

Thomas, coming off a playoff victory at the Honda Classic last week, was tied for the lead when his shot to the 18th from 119 yards landed in front of the pin and spun back into the hole for an eagle and a 64.

Mickelson responded with a two-putt birdie on the par-5 15th and a 20-foot birdie putt on the 16th to tie Thomas at 16-under 268.

LPGA: Michelle Wie holed a 36-foot putt from off the green on the final hole to win the Women’s World Championship in Singapore by one stroke for her first victory since the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open.

With four players in contention to win on the last hole, Wie separated herself from the pack when she drained her lengthy birdie putt for a final round of 7-under 65 to finish at 17-under 271.

EUROPEAN TOUR: George Coetzee closed with a 4-under 67 for a two-shot victory over Sam Horsfield in the Tshwane Open in Pretoria, South Africa.

Coetzee finished on 18-under 266.

BASKETBALL

G LEAGUE: Cat Barber scored 29 points to lead the Greensboro Swarm (14-28) to a 109-100 victory over the Maine Red Claws (17-26) in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Guerschon Yabusele paced the Red Claws with 27 points. Kadeem Allen added 17 points, and Devin Williams had 16 points and 11 rebounds.

FOOTBALL

NFL: Receiver Jarvis Landry told the Miami Dolphins that he intends to sign the franchise tag as early as next week, according to multiple reports.

Landry, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, has 400 receptions for 4,038 yards and 23 touchdowns in four seasons.

The victory widened Barcelona’s gap over its closest rival to eight points with 11 games remaining.

ITALIAN LEAGUE: Fiorentina captain Davide Astori was found dead in his hotel room in Udine, Italy, at the age of 31 after a suspected cardiac arrest.

SKIING

MEN’S SLALOM: Marcel Hirscher of Austria won secured his seventh straight overall World Cup championship by winning a slalom race in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.

WOMEN’S COMBINED: Federica Brignone of Italy edged Olympic champion Michelle Gisin of Switzerland to win the last combined event of the season in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, while Wendy Holdener took the season title in the discipline.
