At the Pittston Town Meeting on March 17, one of the items residents will be asked to vote on is funding for our town’s share of the costs for the Gardiner Public Library. Some Pittston residents do not use the library, but many do.

There are lots of shared resources in our area that most of us use only rarely or not at all, such as town roads, schools, and fire stations. We support these resources because we know that even if there are town roads we never drive on, or our kids are no longer in school, or our house never burns down, these things are there if we need them. We also know that even if we never need them or use them, our neighbors will.

I urge you to think about the library in the same way. It’s there for all of us and it needs your support. Please vote to continue Pittston’s share of this wonderful resource and, if you haven’t been there in a while, check it out. You’ll be surprised at all our library has to offer.
