L.D. 1781 was intended to give General Dynamics, owner of Bath Iron Works and among the wealthiest corporations in the world, a $60 million tax break over a 20-year period. The Legislature’s taxation committee modified the request, reducing the tax break by 25 percent to $45 million over a 15-year period.
When it comes up for a vote, I urge it receive a resounding “no” from legislators. While we have people living in homeless shelters and on the streets of this state, it is simply wrong to line the pockets of wealthy corporations.
