CLERMONT, Fla. — The University of Southern Maine won two nonconference softball games Monday, defeating Elmhust 8-5 after shutting out Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts 6-0 in six innings.

Against Elmhurst (3-4), Erin Martin, Brooke Cross, Taylor Lux and Kayleigh Bohan each rapped three of the 16 hits for the Huskies (6-6).

Martin’s bases-loaded triple gave USM a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Courtney Davis singled home two in the third and Martin singled home two more in the fifth to up the lead to 7-0.

Against MCLA (1-8), Amber Kelly pitched a two-hit shutout and Martin doubled home two runs to cap a five-run fourth.

Kelly struck out eight and walked none.

BOWDOIN 3, NEW PALTZ 1: Caroline Rice tripled home Jordan Gowdy and scored on Claire McCarthy’s single to give the Polar Bears (7-2) a 2-1 first-inning lead over New Paltz (3-4) at Clermont, Florida.

Gowdy also scored on a third-inning passed ball.

WOOSTER 5, BOWDOIN 0: The Fighting Scots (5-7) scored four runs in the first inning, including two bases-loaded walks, without a hit and defeated Bowdoin (7-3) at Clermont, Florida.

Jordan Gowdy had two hits for the Polar Bears.

BOWDOIN 6, MINNESOTA-MORRIS 2: Connor Lee drove home a pair of runs on three hits, and Brandon Lopez scored three times to carry Bowdoin (3-5) past the Cougars (1-11) at Winter Haven, Florida.

The Polar Bears took a 3-0 lead with runs in the second, third and fourth innings. Bowdoin answered a Cougars run in the bottom of the fourth with Lee’s two-run triple in the fifth and Sawyer Billings’ home run in the sixth.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

COLBY 16, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 4: Lyla Jones and McGara DeWan each scored three goals, and Emma Banks added two for Colby (2-3) against UNE (3-3) at Biddeford.

Jolena Lampron, Anna Stowell, Molly Camelo and Keara Dwyer scored for UNE.
