FARMINGTON — Regional School Unit 9 directors voted Tuesday to eliminate 10 late-arrival Wednesdays — beginning April 11 and running through June 13 — to help make up nine school days lost to bad weather.
Before eliminating the late-arrival Wednesdays, when students go to school an hour later than normal, the last student day would have been June 21.
The elimination of 10 hours of late-arrival time adds up to two days and brings the last student day to June 19, according to Superintendent Tom Ward.
If there is another lost day of school, Ward said he can apply for a waiver from the Maine Department of Education.
If more school days are lost to weather, Ward said he might have to pursue other options.
Graduation still is scheduled for June 12.
High school seniors in Maine are required to attend school 170 days a school year, and students in other grades are required to attend 175 days.
