A few points about the recent killings in Florida.

The guilty party — I will not mention his name — was identified as far back as 2016 as being a danger to himself and others. None of the responsible parties — local law enforcement or FBI — did anything about it. Had the proper steps been taken by any of them, such as identifying him as a mentally unstable person, he would not have been able to purchase an AR-15.

But nothing was done.

Names of some people who should be mentioned, and honored.

Aaron Feis, assistant football coach and security guard — he shielded students from the gunfire with his own body.

Scott Beigel, a geography teacher, was killed protecting students from bullets.

Alaina Petty, Martin Duque and Peter Wang, students at the school in the JROTC, an organization supported by the NRA, were all killed while trying to help their fellow students escape. Wang’s family has requested that their son be buried in his uniform, and he has been posthumously admitted to West Point.

JROTC cadets Zachary Walls and Colton Haab protected their peers by shielding the classroom windows with a kevlar curtain. They survived.

Heroes all.
