As reported, there are numerous glitches in Maine’s unemployment filing system. The complaints are piling up. And yet, those in charge at the Department of Labor are destroying records of complaints and hiding the problems from the general public.

Luckily, brave former employees are speaking up. And thankfully our elected officials have begun a probe into the mishandling of client claims at the DOL.

Holding the people in charge at the DOL accountable for their misdeeds is Sen. Shenna Bellows, D-Manchester. She is asking tough questions and requesting that these same people publicly testify. I appreciate that Bellows and other members of the Labor, Commerce, Research, and Economic Development Committee are continuously asking questions and refusing to stop until they have answers. This current debacle in our state government does nothing to cultivate trust in us Mainers, but to see that our elected officials are tirelessly working to protect the interests of the citizens they represent is reassuring.

It’s important to thank our legislators from time to time, especially when they are asking the tough questions. Thank you, Sen. Bellows.
