Twenty-seven students from Somerset Career & Technical Center in Skowhegan competed in 16 competitions during the SkillsUSA Championships held March 1 and 2 at Eastern Maine Community College and Untied Technology Center in Bangor.
More than 700 students representing 23 career and technical schools throughout the state participated in the event. The Maine Chapter of SkillsUSA sponsors the annual competition, according to a news release for the center.
The gold medal winners will represent the state in the National SkillsUSA Championships June 24-20 in Louisville, Kentucky.
The following SCTC students from Madison Area Memorial High School, Maine Central Institute and Skowhegan Area High School medaled in the event:
State Gold Medalists: Jacob Ward, Pin Design, and Promise Patterson, Community Service, both of SAHS; Lauren Hay, Early Childhood Education, of MAMHS; Emma Dimock, T-Shirt Design, Post Secondary, Thomas College; and Samantha Dunton, Community Service, and Cassidy Hamm, Community Service, both of MCI.
State Silver Medalists: Gabe Swanson, Robotics, and James Walker – Robotics, both of SAHS.
Bronze Gold Medalist: Blake Burrill, Promotional Bulletin Board, of MCI; and Ben Voter, T-Shirt Design, Shashta Raymond, Promotional Bulletin Board, and Lindsey Warren, Promotional Bulletin Board, all of SAHS.
