UNION — The following events have been scheduled at Vose Library, 392 Common Road.

Starting a Garden from Scratch will begin at noon Saturday, April 7. Master Gardener and Washington resident Sharon Turner will teach the basics of gardening and answers questions on the topic.

Avoiding Ticks will be the topic of discussion at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 9. Vicki Harriman, Union’s Local Health Officer, will present the latest information on tick-borne diseases and prevention. She will also talk about how to reduce exposure, including building tick-safe paths, ideas that will be incorporated into the Nature Trail. If the weather is good, participants will take a walk outside. Handouts and free tick cups will be available.

STEM Challenge with 4-H will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 11. The event will be an afternoon of friendly competition, science and snacks. Children of all ages are welcome.

Author Margot Anne Kelley will visit the library at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12. Kelley is a writer and photographer, her work emphasizes human relationships to place, especially to the natural world. Her books include the word-and-image projects “Local Treasures: Geocaching Across America” and “A Field Guide to Other People’s Trees.” With photographer Barbara Bosworth, Kelley recently completed “The Meadow.”
