SALEM, Mass. — Dylan Hapworth’s solo home run in the top of the fourth broke a tie as the University of Southern Maine baseball team topped Salem State 7-1 on Thursday.

Hapworth added a double and a single and scored three times for the Huskies (9-6). Devin Warren and Jake Dexter contributed two hits each to a 13-hit attack, with Dexter adding a pair of RBI and Sam Troiano scoring twice.

Hapworth scored on Dexter’s grounder for a 1-0 lead in the second. Mac Daniel Singleton scored on Alex Toomey’s sacrifice fly to tie the game in the third for the Vikings (12-6) before Hapworth ripped his go-ahead shot to left-center with two outs in the fourth.

BATES 7, PLYMOUTH STATE 0: Jack Arend doubled home a pair of runs and scored on a two-run single to left by Giovanni Torres as the Bobcats (5-9) scored seven times in the third inning against Plymouth State (9-6) in Lewiston.

ST. JOSEPH’S 11, HUSSON 1: Jared Gagne had four hits, an RBI and three runs scored as the Monks (13-5) topped Husson (5-9) in Standish.

SOUTHERN MAINE 20, THOMAS 3: Ethan Ouellette scored six times and assisted on three others to lead the Huskies (3-5) during a lopsided triumph against Thomas (2-3) in Gorham.

SOFTBALL

BATES 8, THOMAS 3: Payton Buxton drove a two-run single to right-center as the Bobcats (10-6) overcame an early 1-0 deficit with seven unearned runs in the bottom of the third to beat Thomas (8-10) in Lewiston.

The Terriers made four errors during the seven-run rally.

Buxton relieved in the top of the fourth and pitched 22/3 innings to pick up the win. Buxton drove in three runs and scored once. Paige Ahlholm scored the first run of the big inning and also singled home the seventh run.

Thomas took a 1-0 lead when Katie Taylor walked leading off the top of the third, stole second and scored on Anna Piirainen’s single to left.

SOUTHERN MAINE SWEEPS SALEM STATE: Hannah Kenney drove home four runs on four hits and also scored twice as Southern Maine (9-10) registered 7-3 and 8-5 wins over the Vikings (7-9) in Gorham.

Kenney singled home a run and also scored while sparking the Huskies to a 3-2 first-inning lead in the opener. USM made it 6-2 in the third behind RBI singles from Brooke Cross and Brittany Plowman.

In the second game, Taylor Lux doubled home two runs in the fourth to break a 5-5 tie. The Huskies had tied the game with a four-run third.

MEN’S HOCKEY

MINNESOTA DULUTH 2, OHIO STATE 1: Louie Roehl and Jared Thomas scored in the first 3:04 and the Bulldogs (24-16-3) held off the Buckeyes (26-10-5) to reach the NCAA championship game.

The Bulldogs will face Michigan or Notre Dame on Saturday night.
