More than 50 active and retired educators from around the state recently gathered at the Hutchinson Center in Belfast for a “STRETCH your Teaching” workshop sponsored by Alpha Psi State Maine of Delta Kappa Gamma International, professional organization of women educators, according to a news release from Kay Grindall.

Alpha Psi State President Elaine Hendrickson of Presque Isle helped other DKG members plan the day-long program that was “designed to provide opportunities for teachers from all corners of Maine to stretch their thinking, learn new ideas to implement in their classrooms, and collaborate with colleagues,” she said, according to the release.

Renowned keynoter Sylvie Bastien-Doss, of Quebec, a well-known educator and international speaker, shared her expertise in the fields of education, communications, public relations and school management.

Attendees were awarded 5.5 contact hours toward teacher recertification.

Mary Whitten, science teacher at Gardiner Area High School, was a coordinator of the day-long event and said, “It is our hope that we can offer this professional development opportunity every year. We invite interested teachers to visit alphapsimaine.com for updates,” according to the release.
