Winterberry Farm will host its annual sheep shearing and May Day celebration from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at the farm on Route 27 in Belgrade. This free event will feature family friendly activities and a chance to explore the grounds, and learn more about this animal-powered, certified organic, family operated ‘forever farm.’

Visitors of all ages can participate in traditional dancing around the Maypole with authentic fiddle accompaniment, and observe the sheep being sheared and spinners demonstrating their craft at their wheels. Those interested can help sort the sheared wool, and try their hand at the spinning wheel and weaving at looms set up with wool, fabric and natural materials on hand.

Farmer Mary Perry encourages visitors to make a fun day of it, visiting the baby lambs, seeing other farm animals, and checking out what’s growing in the greenhouses. Sturdy shoes or boots are advisable, and be sure to bring a blanket for a picnic. Box lunches will be available for purchase in the farmstand store. The event will take place rain or shine.
