Care & Comfort appoints Mike Stair president

Care & Comfort has announced the appointment of Michael Stair to president along with his current role as chief operating officer.

In this position, Stair will be responsible for directing all aspects of the agency. Susan D. Giguere, chairwoman and CEO, made the announcement in a news release from the company, calling Stair “a proven, innovative leader with a wealth of expertise in our field.”

A native of Texas, Stair earned his Master of Business Administration degree and his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. He has lived in Maine since 1994 and has more than 30 years of financial, information technology, operational and executive management experience, much of which is in health care. In 2001, he joined Seniors Plus/Elder Independence of Maine in Lewiston, where he worked for nine years. Following his tenure there, Stair became chief operating officer of a company that provides direct home health care services. He also provided executive management consulting and contract services for firms in various industries for over 15 years. He joined Care & Comfort as chief operating officer in 2015.

Care & Comfort is a Waterville-based behavioral health and home health agency that provides care in 13 Maine counties.

Nurse midwife Hanna joins Franklin Health Women’s Care

FARMINGTON — Nurse-midwife JennieLea Hanna has joined the medical staff of Franklin Health Women’s Care and Franklin Memorial Hospital, offering a new provider option for women’s health, including expectant mothers delivering at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

Hanna has an extensive background in labor and delivery nursing that started in 1997 before transitioning to Franklin Memorial Hospital’s Maternal and Child Health Unit in 2008 serving as a nurse for labor and delivery and pediatrics. Hanna has since received her master’s degree in nurse midwifery at Frontier Nursing University.

She joins the obstetrician/gynecologist team of Tara Aumand, M.D.; Susan Kearing, D.O.; and Jennifer Zeliger, M.D. As a certified nurse-midwife, Hanna is an advanced practice provider who offers health care services for women from puberty to beyond menopause, as well as patient education about reproductive health, contraception, and pregnancy planning.

Patients of Franklin Health Women’s Care deliver their babies in the Maternal and Child Health unit, where most women go through labor, deliver and recover in a private room. A new state-of-the-art wireless monitoring system allows the laboring woman the freedom to move about as it monitors her vital signs, measures fetal heart rate and alerts the staff in cases of emergency.

Thomas College project management address to be open to public

Thomas College professor Dr. Frank Appunn plans to deliver a remote keynote address about project management to more than 500 project managers nationally and internationally at the world’s largest telecommunications company, AT&T, at 1:30 p.m on May 9 at the Waterville college, according to a news release from Thomas College.

All community members interested in how to take their business to the next level using strategy and processes are invited to be in audience during the address.

The talk, “Improving Project Benefits and Organizational Success: Integrating Strategy and Project Management,” has a focus on helping to deliver change successfully while supporting the organization’s strategy.

Appunn teaches in the master’s in project management program and in the bachelor’s degree at Thomas College. His work with doctoral students in California adds research findings relating to the latest techniques in project management and Agile software development. He has been an entrepreneur for more than 20 years, providing leading-edge technology and security solutions to large organizations in the banking, health, and mining sectors. His companies provided solutions to organizations in North America, Europe and Africa, including project management.

Community members are invited to attend to learn more about project management, participate in the question-and-answer session and enjoy light refreshments social after the talk. The event is free and open to the public.
