A 21-year-old man was arrested Monday night after running from police in Shapleigh.

York County Sheriff Bill King said a deputy tried to stop a car as it left a convenience store in Shapleigh, but the operator refused to stop. After driving toward Newfield on the shoulder of the road for about 1,000 feet, the car stopped and the driver fled into the woods.

After a short foot pursuit, deputies caught 21-year-old Darrin Furlong, who was arrested without further incident. He was charged with failure to stop for law enforcement, refusing to submit to arrest or detention and operating after suspension.

Furlong is being held on $500 bail at York County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon.
