HINCKLEY — The L.C. Bates Museum at Good Will-Hinckley will host its second annual Earth & Space Day event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 5, on the campus of Good Will-Hinckley., on U.S. Route 201.
Activities will be provided by the National Informal STEM Education Network, children can explore sometimes difficult scientific concepts in accessible ways. From building stomp rockets to study the upper atmosphere, to creating craters on the moon, to planning out the route of a blindfolded “Mars Rover” through obstacles, every activity either imitates a natural process, or models the tools used by NASA scientists to explore and understand the Cosmos.
In addition, several Galileoscopes will be on hand, to help attendees understand the construction behind a simple refractor telescope just like the one invented by Galileo himself 400 ago.
More than a dozen activities and games will remain set up throughout the day, with museum educators on hand to guide visitors and answer questions.
