MADISON — Madison scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back on its way to a 10-5 win over Monmouth in a Mountain Valley Conference softball game Saturday.
Ashley Emery had a triple and a single for Madison (3-0) while Whitney Bess and Lauria LeBlanc each had a double and a single. Ashley Worthen and Kayla Worthen chipped in with two singles apiece.
Haylee Langlois belted a home run and a double for Monmouth (1-1) while Abby Ferland had a triple, a double and a single. Mariah Herr added two singles.
NOKOMIS 17, MOUNT VIEW 5, 6 innings: Chelsea Crockett homered to lead the Warriors to the KVAC B win in Newport.
Nokomis (3-1) scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull away and win via the mercy rule.
CARRABEC 31, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 3, 5 innings: Sam LeBeau and Bailey Dunphy each hit home runs to lead the Cobras to the MVC win in Rumford.
Melanie Clark added two doubles and a triple for Carrabec (3-1) while Cheyenne Sirois and Mackenzie Baker also doubled.
Mountain Valley falls to 0-2.
BASEBALL
MT. ABRAM 16, WISCASSET 0, 5 innings: Hunter Warren and Luke Kearring combined to pitch a no-hitter to help the Roadrunners to the MVC win in Wiscasset.
Kearring added a home run, two singles and three RBIs for Mt. Abram (2-2) while Nate Luce and Jack Denning each doubled.
Wiscasset falls to 0-3.
GIRLS LACROSSE
WINSLOW 6, NOBLE 1: Silver Clukey had a hat trick to lead the Black Raiders to their season-opening win in North Berwick.
Sarah Stevens, Savannah Joler and Hailey Grenier each added a goal for Winslow (1-0-0) while Leah Pelotte had an assist. Carrie Selwood made 14 saves.
Emily Catetus scored for Noble (2-2-0) and Ella Nason stopped 10 shots.
