Recently I was faced with major life-saving surgery. Like most people, I was concerned about having major surgery at a small institution like MaineGeneral in Augusta and contemplated going to Portland or Boston. Once meeting the MaineGeneral surgical team, I changed my mind. The entire surgical team came to my hospital room, introduced themselves, openly talked about my situation, answered all my questions in wonderful easy to understand detail and hand drew drawings on a white board detailing the steps they would take. I had previously researched the team’s credentials and skills online, and they were impressive. I had great confidence in their ability and appreciated that they had everything planned out proactively once they were made aware of my condition by my gastroenterology doctor. In addition to my confidence in their technical ability and skills, they all had great bedside manners and an empathetic and caring approach.

I had a very successful operation and my recovery is progressing very well. I have to say the surgical team in Augusta is outstanding. In addition, the nursing staff, CNAs and all the support services in Augusta are wonderful also. From my experience I would have no hesitation having any major surgery in Augusta.
