A Lewiston woman’s health has improved since she was taken to the hospital two days ago after a three-car crash on U.S. Route 202 in East Winthrop, in which she was badly injured.

The woman, Deborah Salvador, 67, was still at the hospital and listed in fair condition Wednesday afternoon, according to a spokeswoman for Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. A day earlier, she was listed in serious condition.

The crash happened near the East Winthrop post office and closed the busy road for a part of Monday afternoon, forcing traffic to detour onto Old Village Road.

Police said that Salvador was driving east on U.S. Route 202 when her compact sport utility vehicle struck the rear-end of a pickup truck that was waiting to turn left. The impact sent the truck into the opposite lane, where it struck an oncoming Toyota Camry.

The only person with serious injuries was Salvador, who had to be extricated from her 2010 Chevrolet HHR.

Winthrop police are continuing to investigate the crash, according to Sgt. John Hall.
