I was aghast at the Channel 13 news on April 26 regarding “safe injection sites.” I cannot believe there are entities who knowingly endorse the commission of a crime that is punishable by several years of imprisonment and feel that it’s OK. We should not allow this in Maine, as some have suggested.

When agencies provide all the implements for people to self-inject illegal drugs, which they should not possess to begin with, and then provide a “safe” place for them to take them, what are law-abiding folks to think? That the state of Maine does not apply its laws equally, as some folks can break them and others are immune?

That the same agency will then chaperone the addict while they engage in their “high” is a serious cause for pause. I believe every one of the folks associated with this illegal and dangerous sponsoring of addictive behavior should be arrested. How dare they commit a crime and justify it it through legislation?

What makes this worse is that it appears, if passed, the U.S. district attorney and every district attorney and judge in Maine is going to be potentially implicit in the endorsement of this endeavor, which on its face is illegal. This does not pass the straight-face test.

As responsible parents, we are always telling our kids to not take drugs, and here’s a Democratic representative on television offering curb-side service to addicts. And it seems some Democrats think this is OK. The audacity.
