A Wells man was killed in a crash on Route 26 in Gray on Tuesday morning.
Police say a PT Cruiser driven by 72-year-old Richard Shok left the road and struck a tree shortly after 7:30 a.m. Shok was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
There was no one else in the vehicle with Shok.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but it does not appear that speed or alcohol were factors, according to Capt. Scott Stewart of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Traffic was diverted around the intersection of Route 26 – also called Shaker Road – and Mayberry Road while the sheriff’s office reconstructed the crash.
