The town of Wayne has planned Memorial Day events for Monday, May 28.
Veterans, bands, Boy and Girl Scouts, and anyone with a focus on honoring veterans can assemble at 10:30 a.m. at the Wayne Community Church, 22 Old Winthrop Road. The groups will leave the parking lot at 11 a.m. and proceed down Main Street to Pond Road and back to the Veterans Memorial Stone on Pocasset Lake, where a wreath laying ceremony will take place. Then the parade will move to the Veterans Memorial Park, where the formal program will continue. If it rains, services will be at the Ladd Center.
Transportation will be provided for any veterans who need a ride to the parade. Those interested in giving veterans a ride can call David Ault at 685-4578.
Col. Carlisle A. Lincoln, Air National Guard (retired), will be the guest speaker. All veterans are welcome to participate in the parade as a tribute to men and women of the town who have served in different branches of the services in the past.
For more information, call Doug Stevenson at 685-9005 or Don Welsh at 685-4117.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
