The Readfield Historical Society will host its summer season opening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Memorial Day weekend, May 26 and 27, at 759 Main St.
The new gift shop will be open, where visitors can browse the museum, collections and new library; and visit with the volunteer docents of the day. Nancy Plourde, who serves one day every June as the RHS 19th century school teacher for Readfield third graders, will be on hand from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26.
Plourde was given an honorary lifetime membership by the society this spring for her dedication to the local history module she developed nearly two decades ago for Readfield Elementary School. She taught third grade in Readfield for more than 30 years, until her retirement, and the program has continued every year since with full support from subsequent third-grade teachers.
The RHS building will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays and Saturdays, Memorial weekend through Labor Day, and by appointment. Visit Readfield Historical Society on Facebook for more information and updates on upcoming events.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
