AUGUSTA — An free introduction to calligraphy workshop is set for 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at Lithgow Public Library, 45 Winthrop St.
Valerie Ortelt will conduct this two-hour, hands-on, introductory workshop. Ortelt is an artist and children’s writer/illustrator who has been a professional calligrapher and instructor for 40 years.
“I was immediately captivated by the art of calligraphy. I excelled at penmanship, when handwriting was very important in a child’s curriculum. Studying the different styles, or hands, in this art form expanded my sense of what constitutes kaligrafos, Greek for beautiful writing,” said Ortelt according to a news release from the library.
The class size is limited, so call or stop by the library to reserve a spot.
