HALLOWELL — Goodrich-Caldwell American Legion Post 6, 114 Second St., has announced the schedule for its Memorial Day observance on Monday, May 28.
Participants will gather at the Post hall between 9:15 and 9:30 a.m. From there, the parade will form at the train trestle on East Water Street, then proceed north to the City Cemetery, stopping at the Civil War Monument. Participants can assemble at 10:30 a.m. at the Civil War Monument, where opening remarks by Cmdr. Maureen Malley and an invocation by the Rev Thomas DeRaps, and remarks by Hallowell City Manager Nate Rudy, then volley by the Maine State Select Honor Guard.
A wreath placement event is planned for the Civil War Monument by Comrade Carroll Whitman. Volley by the Maine State Select Honor Guard will be followed by Taps and Echo by Hall-Dale High School band, with a medley of songs by Joan Morgan, and Jean and Don Davenport.
The parade will reform and proceed to the Legion Park. Malley will open the ceremony with invocation by Post 6 Chaplain Don Garrison, followed by a Memorial Day address by Sen. Shenna Bellows, District 14. “God Bless America” will be performed by Nancy McGinnis, with the laying of the wreath will be done by Comrade Steve Mairs. Volley by Maine State Select Honor Guard will follow, with Taps and Echo by Hall-Dale High School.
“The National Anthem” will be performed by the Hall-Dale High School. Closing will include a benediction by Rabbi Erica Ashe.
A service will then form at the Hallowell Waterfront, on Winthrop Street. Prayer will be given by Post 6 Chaplain Don Garrison, with Taps performed by Nancy McGinnis. Placement of a wreath will be done by Comrade Lew Gipson
