A Boston man has been sentenced to 6½ years in prison for being a felon in possession of a handgun.

Keon Shine, 28, and Dane Mitchell, 26, also of Boston, were arrested after police in Massachusetts recognized them from a video they had posted to Snapchat. The two rented guns, bought ammunition and fired the weapons at a shooting range in Gray in April 2017. They also videotaped themselves firing the weapons and posted the video online, where it was spotted by Boston police.

Shine pleaded guilty in November 2017, and was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Judge D. Brock Hornby in federal court in Portland. Mitchell, who pleaded guilty in August 2017, was sentenced on May 14 to to 27 months in prison. Both were prohibited from possessing firearms because of prior felony convictions in Massachusetts.
