The 2018 Moose Festival will be held June 8-10 at the Skowhegan State Fairground, 33 Constitution Ave. in Skowhegan.

The free three-day event will include a wide range of activities for families, including two moose calling competitions, as well as the announcement of results for the state’s moose permit lottery. Organizers plan on a large turnout to attempt to set the Guinness World Records title for the most people moose calling simultaneously. Other events include adult and child moose calling competitions, hunting and fly fishing demonstrations, seminars with sporting experts, vendors, outdoor retailers, food trucks, music and more.

The Guinness World Records attempt for the most people moose calling simultaneously will be held at 1:45 p.m. Saturday, June 9. At the event, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife will announce the results of Maine’s annual moose permit lottery at 2 p.m.

Headlining the entertainment will be national recording artist Phil Vassar and opening act Bryan White who will perform at a concert Saturday night. Adults also will have the opportunity to experience wild game and craft beer pairing and tasting as part of the weekend festivities. Tickets for the concert and taste testing are an additional cost.

Attractions for children during the weekend include exploratory activities, including a climbing wall, BB-gun range, face painting, antler making, tractor-pulls, K-9 field demonstrations and a moose calling competition for children 12 and younger. Moose Maine-iah monster truck rides also will be available for an additional cost.

The Axe Women Loggers of Maine, who compete nationally in a wide range of timbersports, will perform wood carving and axe cutting demonstrations. There will be opportunities to win raffles for major prizes.

Sunday will include the traditional Maine maple breakfast featuring locally sourced ingredients from 7 to 10 a.m. at Constitution Hall.
