A 62-year-old Massachusetts man fell off a ledge in Harpswell early Friday evening, struck his head and later died of his injuries.
John Bernadi of Sherborn, Massachusetts, was visiting with friends at 118 Brick Yard Cove Road shortly before 8 p.m. Friday when he slipped off a ledge and fell 25 feet. He struck his head on a rock and landed in the water.
Bernadi’s friends witnessed his fall and provided emergency first aid and CPR to get him breathing again. Cundy’s Harbor Rescue transported Bernadi to Maine Medical Center in Portland with a head injury.
Bernadi’s family in Massachusetts was notified, and they traveled to Portland to be with him.
Bernadi was treated in the hospital’s intensive care unit, but later died from his injuries. According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, the incident is not suspicious and “appears to be a tragic accident.”
