WINSLOW — Folksinger and storyteller Jennifer Armstrong will share her music and stories from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 8, at Winslow Public Library, 136 Halifax St.

“Sing me a story! Tell me a song!” That’s what she said as a child growing up in a folk singing, storytelling family. Goldilocks, Peter Rabbit, Old MacDonald and Aiken Drum were all friends of hers, according to a release from the library.

She now milks goats, keeps laying hens, ducks, horses and pigs and says, “I feel as if I am living inside the songs and stories I learned as a child,” according to the release.

Armstrong will share traditional and original songs and stories accompanied by fiddle, banjo, guitar and bagpipe. The dancing puppet and the handkerchief mouse are sure to make an appearance as well.

According to the release, Armstrong grew up a member of the first family of folk in the Chicago area and was singing before she was talking and playing fiddle, banjo, guitar and Scottish bagpipe by the time she was 14. Since 1977 she has plied her trade as a professional musician and storyteller, performing and teaching around the country and abroad. She has told stories as far away as Hong Kong and has twice been a featured teller at the National Storytelling Festival in Tennessee. In 2000, she moved to Belfast, where she added milking goats, presenting a Pie and Storytelling Festival and growing a big garden to her list of fun things to do.
