Here we go again. You can see it as plain as the nose on your face. They’re coming after us again, our tradition and love of our mascot (“Skowhegan last Maine school to hold on to Indian imagery,” June 15.
There was a mural on the wall of the Depositor’s Trust Bank when I was a child. I was always awed by it. Now, a copy of it is displayed at the gym of Skowhegan High School. I’m proud of the fact that I have Indian blood running through my veins. Yet the bigots want to take that away from us. The word, Skowhegan, is an Indian word. Are we to change the name of our town?
Leave us alone and allow us to honor our heritage.
