A York man has been sentenced to a month in prison for making false statements to a federal agent.

Mark Elkhorn, 58, was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Court Judge Jon D. Levy to three years of supervised release. The sentencing was in federal court in Bangor.

Elkhorn pleaded guilty to the charge in January.

According to court records, in December 2015, Elkhorn sent a threatening text message to a witness who had previously tipped off law enforcement that Elkhorn was illegally trapping animals in Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge. Elkhorn was convicted on state and federal charges as a result of that tip.

In January 2017, Elkhorn denied sending the threatening text message to the witness, resulting in the charge of lying to a federal agent.
