A 70-year-old convicted murderer died Thursday at the Maine State Prison in Warren, according to the Department of Corrections.

Ashton Moores

Asthon L. Moores was serving multiple sentences, including a life sentence for murder and a 20-year sentence for gross sexual assault. He died just before 10 p.m. Thursday, according to officials.

Moores, who was from Bangor, was convicted in the 2007 death of 43-year-old Christina Simonin. He killed her in the apartment they shared, hauled her body away in a borrowed wheelbarrow and dumped it behind an apartment building, where it was found on March 3, 2007.

Moores began serving his sentences on Jan. 30, 2009.

The Attorney General’s Office, Maine State Police and Office of the State Medical Examiner were all notified of the death as required by Department of Corrections policy.
