Regarding the debate over the economic impact of cruise ships in Maine, I was very pleased to see the June 21 op-ed column by Sarah Flink (“Our mission is sustainable cruise ship tourism — where it’s wanted”).
To me, it often appears some in Maine regularly debate — or fight — any and all economic development or activity in Maine unless it located far away in another state. As the world grows, I believe we need to embrace cruise ships, eco-tourism and related industries as Maine is best known for its beauty and natural resources.
I like Flink’s discussion points, encourage folks to read the article, and hope we can all agree to embrace Maine’s strengths and improve economic opportunity wherever possible.
