WINTHROP — Educator Karen Toothaker will host an all ages tea party to celebrate the release of her new book “The Rag Doll Gift” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at the Bailey Public Library, 39 Bowdoin St.

Toothaker Rag dolls of many styles will be available for children at the event, and children are encouraged to bring their own rag doll. The program also will feature children’s crafts and refreshments.

The free event is part of the ongoing Lakes Region Forum sponsored by the Winthrop Public Library Foundation.

Toothaker is an early childhood educator, curriculum developer, children’s book author, dance teacher, community organizer, mother and grandmother.

As part of the program she will discuss the effectiveness of picture books in stimulating the mind, opening conversation, and offering emotional support.

Toothaker grew up in Winthrop, and graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Maine in Farmington. In addition to owning and operating a local nursery school for more than 30 years, she has served on the Winthrop Recreation Committee, Winthrop Plays Outside Committee, and is an active member of the United Methodist Church.
