A Sanford man was charged with terrorizing after he allegedly threatened to shoot people and fired his gun during a confrontation with neighbors.

Sanford police say 53-year-old Bruce Hunter of 10 Mousam St. left his house with a firearm, got into a verbal confrontation with neighbors and threatened to shoot them shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday. Another man beckoned Hunter to go back into the house and Hunter fired a shot, witnesses told police.

A police tactical unit was brought to the scene as a contingency to help evacuate neighbors if the situation escalated and to provide officers a safe approach to the residence if needed, police said.

Hunter and the other man, who was not identified by police, left the house about 45 minutes after police arrived and were taken into custody.

Sanford police, with the assistance of several state troopers, determined there were no injuries to anyone involved. A firearm was found in the home.
