Born in Lewiston and raised around the area, actor Patrick Dempsey appear as a guest at MaineVoices Live on Monday, July 23, at Aura in Portland. He will be interviewed by Mary Pols, Portland Press Herald staff writer.
When his mother Amanda was diagnosed with cancer in 1997, the Dempsey family saw a need for cancer patients in central Maine. The Dempsey Center opened in 2008, investing in the well-being of Maine cancer patients, their families and caregivers, and in Lewiston’s economic development.
In 2018, the Dempsey Center merged with the Cancer Community Center under the Dempsey Centers name, adding a second location in South Portland. This September, the tenth Dempsey Challenge, an annual run/walk/cycling fundraising experience, aims to raise $1.5 million to support the Centers’ free cancer support services.
